Embedded architectures for autonomous systems

A part of this research team activities relates to the study of embedded architectures for autonomous systems in relation with the dependability criteria. This research is dealt by one thesis and two projects:

  • Jean-Charles Chaudemar: specification and assessment of architectures for dependable autonomous systems and some studies are managed in cooperation with the ONERA/DCSD - UR CD team,
  • Satellite formation flight (CNES project): specification of an architecture for FDIR (Fault Detection, Isolation and Reconfiguration),
  • RESSAC UAV (ONERA project): analysis and specification of an architecture of safety for an insertion of UAV in the civil air traffic.

Operations management

The Hélimaintenance research project is focused on predictive maintenance for helicopters. The goal is to design an integrated system that links information gathered by sensor during the flight to maintenance organization, through prognostic based on a critical part failure database. One PhD student is contributing to this project:

  • Malek Masmoudi: helicopter maintenance planning, focused on the organization of the maintenance workshop and more precisely on the integration of uncertainty into maintenance planning.

Human factors

A research activity is conducted in the field of cognitive modelling applied to human factors. This research is focused on the detection of degraded situation to provide on line assistance to . This research finds significant application in civilian aviation with the Ghost project (Airbus-CSDV Onera) and in human-unmanned vehicles operators (DGA-MRIS). Two PhD students (CSDV) are actively contributing to this particular topic:

  • Quentin Andrieu (director : C. Tessier, co-director F. Dehais): The objective of this PhD thesis is to provide a computational model of attentional processes in order to (1) predict the occurrence of the pilot’s attentional errors (eg missed alarms) and (2) to assess user interface diagnosis to anticipate erro- neous designs ;
  • Stéphane Mercier (director: C. Tessier, co-director F. Dehais): the aim of this PhD thesis is to provide a formal framework to the concept of adaptative autonomy in the realm of multi agent systems. This PhD thesis will use the experimental environment developped in the MRIS project to test and validate the working hypotheses

Finally, Cong Sang Tsan (research scientist) developps for the MRIS project an experimental environement to study man– unmanned vehicles cooperation. In this sense, several physical autonomous robots (2 UGV’s and UAV) are implemented with advanced capabilities to interact with the human operator.
